Doug Burgess
Doug Burgess's interest in photography began in 1977 with a
college elective that grew into a lifelong pursuit. Coming after
an aimless childhood, photography gave Burgess purpose and a
clear direction that has never failed him. The craft of photography,
of creating images that express his emotions and inner feelings,
is as important to him as the final image, the process from
camera to print as a single experience. His ultimate goal is
the creation of images that accord with his inner vision and
resonate with the subconscious of others.
Burgess's early work shows
an exploratory vision, yet one that strives to find beauty
in the commonplace. In recent years his eye has sharpened
and his vision has become more acute as a result of family
crisis. Themes of devastation and hope, fragility and endurance,
chaos and order, the struggle of good over evil pervade his
current efforts.
Doug Burgess currently
resides in central Virginia with his wife and three daughters.
